Lake Arrowhead Fall Guide 2026: Oktoberfest Weekends, Fall Color, and Halloween in the Village

If you've only seen Lake Arrowhead in the summer, you've seen the crowded version. Fall is when the lake quiets down, the light turns gold through the pines by mid-afternoon, and the Village puts on the two events that, more than anything else, tell you what living up here actually feels like. Here's what's on the calendar, what's worth planning a weekend around, and what to double-check before you drive up.

Oktoberfest at the Village: Weekends Through October 25

Lake Arrowhead's Oktoberfest is one of the longest-running traditions in the Village, and 2026 marks its 45th year. It runs every Saturday and Sunday from September 19 through October 25, out at the Village's event area near the end of the Peninsula, with the usual mix of German food, beer, music, and games that draws people up the mountain from all over Southern California on fall weekends.

It's an easy way to see the Village at its liveliest without committing to a whole vacation. Park early if you're coming on a weekend, since Village parking fills fast during the run, and bring a layer. Even on a warm afternoon, the temperature drops fast once the sun gets behind the ridge.

Fall Color in the San Bernardino Mountains

Lake Arrowhead sits at about 5,100 feet, which means the color season runs later than what most Southern California visitors are used to. The black oaks and dogwoods along the lake and in the surrounding forest typically turn in mid-to-late October, sometimes stretching into early November depending on how much rain the mountain gets beforehand. The drive along Highway 18 and the trails around the lake's north shore are usually the best places to catch it, and a lot of the color shows up in yards and along quiet residential streets that you'd never see unless you were actually walking the neighborhoods, not just passing through the Village.

That's part of what's easy to miss on a day trip. The postcard view from the Village is real, but the neighborhoods above it are where the mountain actually lives in the fall.

Halloween in the Village

The Village has hosted a free, family-friendly Halloween event on Halloween afternoon in recent years, with local shops and vendors handing out candy along the waterfront walkway. Halloween itself falls on a Saturday in 2026, which typically means a bigger turnout than a weekday Halloween would draw.

If you want a bigger production than trick-or-treating in the Village, SkyPark at Santa's Village up the road has been running a separate Halloween-themed event in October, on top of its usual attractions. Worth a look if you've got kids and want to make a full day of it.
